I Got An Exclusive Look Inside Amarillo’s Rockrose Sports Park

I haven't hidden my excitement over Rockrose Sports Park being built in Amarillo. Being someone who has been heavily involved in youth sports since my oldest was three years old, I've been involved in it for over a decade.

When we moved to Amarillo, I was surprised there wasn't a giant sports complex built for youth sports. Sure, there were a few facilities for baseball and softball, but outside of that? Nothing really dedicated to youth sports.

Going Inside Rockrose Sports Park

That all changed when Rockrose Sports Park was announced. After years of fundraising for it, the privately funded facility earned enough money to begin building. Over the years, I've written about this facility as well as other facilities in the area.

Well, it all paid off when Kids, Inc. President & CEO Jimmy Lackey reached out to me. He offered me an invitation to come and tour the facility and the progress they're making at Rockrose. Obviously, I didn't turn this opportunity down.

Arriving At The Facility

Once I arrived, I was met by Jimmy and Kids, Inc. Executive Vice President Craig Wilfong. They were warm, inviting, and excited to show me the facility. I thought we were going to just walk the facility, but we hopped into Jimmy's truck and drove inside.

Why was a vehicle needed? Well, the facility is two miles around, so working out wasn't on our list of things to do. When I got inside, I was amazed at just how expansive the facility was.

What's Inside Rockrose Sports Park

I won't bore you with all the details; you can see it for yourself in the pictures below. However, there are some things I wanted to mention about the facility as they aren't things I could take pictures of.

Parking is NOT going to be an issue there. Jimmy & Craig told me there will be 1,600 parking spots available around the complex. Let me tell you how inviting that was to hear. Parking is always a problem at these facilities, and they thought this one through well.

They are building multiple entrances and exits into the facility, and yes, there will be entrances and exits along the I-27 frontage road. There will also be some built off of Coulter, so you'll be able to get in and out of it in multiple directions.

An Unexpected Surprise Awaits

Oh, one last thing before we dive into the pictures of it...they got a horse. Yes, there will be one of the famed horse statues out at Rockrose Sports Park.
