Is GameStop Closing Stores in Amarillo?
With how big gaming has gotten over the last 5-10 years, you would think that places like GameStop would be raking in the dollars. I mean, Amarillo has three locations just on its own. Imagine how many the big cities have.
However, GameStop has evolved an awful lot over the last few years, and that's because gaming systems have adopted more of a download delivery method for games as opposed to having to use discs. Sure, the disc options are there, but many have abandoned them.
GameStop Closing Locations All Over The United States
Because of this, GameStop has shifted their strategy. Sure, they still carry games, systems, accessories, and all that. They have started carrying more things like collectibles, t-shirts, and more to help combat the shift. It doesn't seem, though, that it's enough to help keep them going.
GameStop started closing locations late last year, and they have continued into the new year. GameStop announced they are in a mad dash to close these stores before the end of their fiscal year, which will be January 31, 2026. They've already closed multiple locations in Texas and hundreds across the country.
Is Amarillo Losing Any GameStop Locations
As of right now, there have been no signs posted on the windows and doors of any of the three locations here in Amarillo. So for now, they appear to be safe. That's good news for gamers and people like me who enjoy going there to pick up sports cards.
The three locations, one on 45th and Coulter, one located inside Westgate Mall, and the last one on I-40 off Grand, will more than likely survive the cut, but that doesn't mean they'll be safe in the future. We'll keep an eye on this for you.
