Christmas will be here before you know it.  So it is shopping crunch time.  Is it ok to buy boys toys that are intended for girls?

I have a little boy.  He is three years old and I have try my hardest to let him develop his own opinions on everything.  He is a very unique little boy.  He doesn't know the difference between toys intended for boys or those intended for girls.  All he knows is things he likes.

Now I do not dress him in girls clothes, but if he likes a pink or purple shirt I see no problem with it.  The place we encounter a problem is in the toy department.  His dad would like him to only have boy toys.  Cars, WWE action figures, sports things.  I, on the other hand, want him to have things he'll enjoy.

For example, on his second birthday I went against his dad's wishes and bought him a toy kitchen.  It was yellow and brown, so not  a girl color.  It also came with fake food and pots and pans.  He absolutely loves it.  To this day, he plays with it all the time.  The reason I bought it was because he loved being in the kitchen with me.  And I think both boys and girls need to know how to cook.

Well this past weekend we were out Christmas shopping when I suggested buying our son an Easy Bake Oven.  The response was not just no, but hell no.  He thinks I only want to buy my son girl things.  This isn't true.  My son loves to cook and bake and I think he would truly enjoy something like this.  Plus they make one in a blue color so it isn't that girly.

Maybe it is just me, but I see nothing wrong with boys having toys intended for girls.  If I had a girl and she wanted a Nerf football I think that would be ok.  So what do you think?  Is it ok for me to buy my son toys intended for girls?
