Is There A Mormon Temple In Amarillo? No, But There’s Options.
The question came up recently in a conversation of whether or not there's a Mormon temple in Amarillo. After doing some digging, we had a couple of answers.
No, there's no temple. But if you're looking for a place to worship as part of the Latter Day Saints, there's still options.
A Temple And A Church Are Similar, But Not The Same
Apparently, from what we were able to find, there are two types of places to worship among the Latter Day Saints. One is open to everyone and is where weekly services are held. The other is reserved for very sacred ceremonies.
Chaples, or churches, are where weekly services are held. Amarillo has two of these.
So if you're practicing or considering, you have options.
Amarillo does not, however, have a temple. The churches are located on Bell and on Coulter
If You're Wondering About Temples, Texas Has Plenty Of Those
In fact, the Lone Star State is home to four different temples. One of them is actually pretty close to Amarillo.
It's the temple located in Lubbock.
Other temples are in Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio.
If You're Not A Member, Don't Go Two-Stepping Into A Temple
Another fact we were mostly unaware of, is that temples are reserved only for those who are members of the Church of Latter Day Saints. That means the general public isn't invited to just "come on in."
Tours are usually given after construction is finished, and before a new temple is officially dedicated. It's a small window of opportunity for you to get to see the inside.
