You've heard it. I've heard it. People from Amarillo complaining about the influx of people moving to Yellow City causing all kinds of traffic headaches, longer lines at our favorite places, blah blah blah, and the list goes on. So, when we're finally fed up with people not knowing how to merge on to the highway, where do we go?

Here's a list of some of the top destinations we're moving to, once we leave Amarillo

Where Are People From Amarillo Moving To?

It shouldn't be a surprise that the top of the top destinations would be bigger cities in Texas. On Stacker, these are the top five places we're moving to. Spoiler alert; they're all in the Lone Star State.

  • Dallas
  • Lubbock
  • Houston
  • Tyler
  • Austin

Dallas came in at the top spot, and our neighbors to the south took the number two spot. Lubbock really wasn't that big of a surprise, given the close proximity and the fact that a lot of us are already making regular trips down there to get out of town.

Tyler, Texas was a bit of a surprise. When I think of places I would like to move to, Tyler usually isn't the first thing that comes to mind.

Nothing against east Texas, by the way. I've lived out in the pines, and loved it.

Where Are People Moving To From Amarillo That's Out Of State?

This is where it got really interesting. Texan pride reigns when you look at the top of the list. We may move around, but we keep it in Texas.

When it comes to those looking for something new outside of the Lone Star State, they aren't going far. Number six on the list is right next door to the east.

Oklahoma City.

The places out of state that we're moving to most are:

  • Oklahoma City, OK
  • Las Vegas, NV
  • Cape Coral, FL
  • Miami, FL
  • Chicago, IL

Oklahoma City is a bit puzzling. Surely that's a work thing.

The next three make more sense. The beach and Las Vegas. If you're going to leave home, go big. Right?

You can see their entire breakdown of the numbers and see the whole top 50 list at this link.

Not that I'm looking to move any time soon, but it does make me wonder where I would go. Might be fun to see if I could find some "hometown folk" out Vegas way.
