In August of 2023, a groundbreaking was held in Randall County that signified the beginning of an expansion that would create jobs in the area. The groundbreaking was held on August 8, 2023, and soon the expansion at the Randall County Jail will be complete, and with it the creation of those new jobs.

Randall County Jail Expansion Is Getting Nearer Completion

The expansion of Randall County Jail began on August 8 of last year. The expansion includes two new pods and almost 100 more beds. The 96 new beds will help county law enforcement deal with the increase in population that Randall County has seen in recent years.

According to reports, the new pods will help increase the safety of inmates and staff. They will be used for inmates who need to be isolated for various reasons. Reasons why an inmate could be isolated range from communicable diseases to mental health issues that result in them needing to be isolated for a time from the general population. Each cell will have its own shower, which means inmates who need to be isolated can remain isolated from other inmates and staff.

The project was slated to take around 14 months to complete. As of today, the expansion is on track to be completed in January 2025.

Employment Opportunities Because Of Randall County Jail Expansion

The expansion has resulted in more than just new pods and beds. It has also created a need for additional staff at the Randall County Jail. According to information from the Randall County Sheriff's Office, there is a need for seven new correctional officers at the jail. Requirements for the positions are:

  • Must have a valid Texas driver's license, and you must have and maintain a good driving record.
  • Must pass the required physical agility test.
  • Must be a licensed jailer through TCOLE within a year of employment.
  • Read and write the English language.
  • Meet specific physical requirements established by departmental administration.
