Driving in Texas can be risky business. Any time we get behind the wheel of a vehicle and get on the road, there is always a chance of an accident. But there are some roads where you are statistically more likely to be in a deadly crash than anywhere else in the Lone Star State.

So, what road in Texas do these fatal accidents take place? Looking at the freshest data available, there are actually two answers to this question. And one of the answers might just surprise you.

I-10 in Beaumont, Texas

This study by MoneyGeek was interesting in that the data for deadly stretches of roads was drilled down specific sections, as marked by exits.

The deadliest? That would be I-10 from Exit 855A to Exit 849 in Beaumont, Texas. There were 17 fatal accidents with 17 fatalities on this 4-mile stretch of city highway. That translates to 4.2 crashes per mile.

The runner up? That would be the 4.9 miles running from Exit 238B to Exit 244 on I-35 in Austin, Texas. There were 16 fatal accidents with 18 fatalities, translating to 3.3 crashes per mile.

I-45 is Deadliest in Texas, Second-Deadliest in Nation

The other answer to the 'Most Dangerous Road in Texas' question is I-45 in Central/Southern Texas. Shockingly, this is touted as not just the most dangerous road in Texas, but also the second-most dangerous road in the country.

Gnarly.

According to an eight-year study by the Accident Data Center, this highway saw an average of 56.5 fatal accidents per 100 miles.

Additionally, the most dangerous section of I-45 can be found in Harris County. In one year alone, there were "115 traffic fatalities, including 11 deaths in interstate traffic accidents".

Next time you plan a road trip around Texas and see either of these highways, you just might want to consider an alternative route. Or at the very least, drive alert and drive safe.
