With the emergence of newer art in Amarillo, it's important to keep some of Amarillo's older art pieces in mind. When it comes to our city's classic art pieces, the first things that probably come to mind are works like Cadillac Ranch.

But another art piece that once could be viewed from Amarillo's highways is getting some well-deserved love and attention from the local community.

The Metal Acrobat statue that once stood off I-27 in front of Dulaney's Autoparts, is now located in front of the Arts in the Sunset building.

The Dulaney Acrobats

If you've driven down I-27, chances are that you have seen this beautiful work of design standing proudly in front of Dulaney's Auto Parts.

As long as I can remember, this sleek, smooth, and intricate sculpture which depicts a group of acrobats holding each other up never failed to catch my attention while driving from Amarillo to Canyon.

The History Behind This Sculpture

According to some stories that have been told online, the statue was commissioned by the owner of Dulaney's Auto Parts to generate attention from drivers passing by. The statue itself is made up of multiple chrome bumpers that were put together by an artist from Montana.

In retrospect, this sculpture did a good job of garnering attention for this local car parts yard. In its time at Dulaney's Auto Parts, it stood as a sort of centerpiece for all businesses down I-27.

It's New Home

Sadly for those driving down I-27, the acrobats will not be visible anymore, but it's nice to know that they are being taken care of. Thankfully the metal acrobats' new home will likely take care of it and maintain it for years to come.

Amarillo Landmarks: Negative Yelp Reviews

Yelp can be a strange and angry place. That's what I found out recently when I decided to sort the reviews by "lowest rating" first.

I was okay with the people upset over bad service and what not. But I came across a few reviews that, for lack of a better word, left me speechless in their scathing negative reviews on some of Amarillo's most iconic places. Prepare your self for plenty of head shaking and "I dunno" shrugs.
