Jermaine Jackson is being sued for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman named Rita Butler Barrett in Los Angeles in 1988.

According to People, Butler filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday (Dec. 27), accusing Jackson of sexual battery, battery, sexual assault and negligence.

The woman is also suing Jermaine L. Jackson Music Productions, Inc. and Work Records, Inc.

In the suit, Barrett claims she knew the former Jackson 5 member for years before the assault took place.

Jackson allegedly arrived at her home in or around the spring of 1988 unannounced and forced himself inside, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her with "force and violence."

"During the assault, Plaintiff, a woman of faith, prayed to God for help. During the assault, Plaintiff feared for her life," the lawsuit states, according to the outlet.

Barrett claims she reported the ordeal the next day to Motown Records founder Berry Gordy, who was purportedly “simultaneously in a personal and business relationship” with Barrett’s husband.

She stated that Gordy “withheld and concealed the acts, further perpetuating the coverup.”

Barrett "suffered severe emotional, physical, and psychological injury, including humiliation, shame, guilt, economic loss, economic capacity, and permanent emotional distress" at the hands of Jackson, according to the suit.

Barrett's attorney, Jeff Anderson, said that his client "suffered an egregious and violent sexual assault."

"This is about her power and the declaration of it when she learned something could be done under the law, and she found the strength and support to find us and is now standing up for herself and others," his statement read, according to the outlet.
