The news that Amarillo is getting a Long John Silver's back in the city starts to make us pine for more restaurants and places we once had, doesn't it?

There are so many different places that have come and gone over the years, but only certain ones stick out as a place we'd give just about anything to get back.

One of those places would be Jack In The Box. I've seen just about as many people mention or post that they want one back in Amarillo, and honestly, I'm right there with them. There's something about those tacos I can't get enough of.

Is There A Chance We Get One

I mean, there's always a chance, but I'd say at the moment it might be a bit difficult to get one here. According to KTLA in Los Angeles, Jack In The Box isn't exactly adding stores, they're subtracting them.

Now just because they're dumping some stores, it doesn't mean there's zero chance for an addition somewhere else. The stores they're closing are underperforming and part of a master plan to improve cash flow for the chain.

What's The Plan

As of right now, the chain is planning on closing 150-200 stores across the country. They're calling the plan "JACK On Track," and it's aimed at accelerating cash flow and paying down some debt.

Normally, when companies start shutting down multiple locations, it's a sign that they're in big financial trouble and at risk of simply not existing. By getting ahead of things a bit here, JIB could find itself in a better position to compete and add stores.

No word on whether any current Texas locations will be shutting their doors.

How Long Will This Take

The plan is to have the majority of the underperforming stores shut down by the end of the year. The others that aren't closed by then will be shut down once their franchise agreements terminate.

As far as Amarillo getting a Jack In The Box, I imagine the earliest we could even think about getting one would be the middle of 2025. Guess we'll just have to overindulge at LJS for the time being.
