File this one in the "only in Texas" files, because I'm convinced this is only something you would hear about here.

The setting is Jones Elementary School in Tyler, Texas. A Christmas party for the 5th graders, something light and fun, full of food, drinks, and children laughing.

All of that was present at the party, but there was something else present at the part that shouldn't have been. Sure, maybe an adult party, but definitely not a 5th grade party.

Jell-O shots. Yes, THOSE Jell-O shots.

According to this NBC News article, Teresa Isabel Bernal was arrested and charged with injury to a child months after providing alcoholic Jell-O shots to the kids at the party.

15 students began to complain of stomachaches and headaches after consuming the Jell-O shots, with one student mentioning they twice vomited after consuming them. Another student reported "passing out" after having them.

According to the affidavit filed by police, one student mentioned they had SIX of the Jell-O shots, “got dizzy and fell and felt like he could not get back on his feet.”

Bernal said she had ordered them from a home business she located on Facebook and didn't believe there was alcohol in them. However, there was a clear disclaimer on the company's Facebook page stating there was alcohol in them.

The teacher took the kids back to her classroom and instructed any of them that had consumed a Jell-O shot to go to the nurses office. Only four students remained in the classroom after she did that.

Officials said that Bernal was a very active parent with the school prior to the incident, but has not been allowed back on campus since the Christmas party. Bernal was arrested and booked into Smith County Jail where she posted a $75,000 bond and released.

TX Senate Bill 3 Passed: These Historical Subjects Would No Longer Be Teaching Requirements in TX Schools

Texans who disagree feel that removing these teaching standards are a step in the wrong direction and may lead away from educating our children about the diversity of American citizens and their histories.
