Texas is full of celebrities that call the state home. Whether they were born and raised here, or have moved here since finding success, Texas is definitely a hotbed of athletes, actors & actresses, etc. who've gone on to do big things.

Most of those people though call the big cities home. Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio. They seem to be where the majority of these celebs hail from. It's not very often Amarillo gets a chance to claim some of these superstars.

One of the most recent ones is baseball player Heston Kjerstad. He absolutely tore up AAA and got the call to the big leagues. He was on the Baltimore Orioles roster for a bit, but he was kind of blocked from getting playing time, so he's back in Norfolk until needed.

We have a new one to add to that list however, and it's not an athlete. This one is a world-famous author who got some exciting news.

Jodi Thomas is a New York Times bestselling author who has written 80+ books and is an extremely well-known author of romance novels, and she hails from right here in Amarillo. She recently released a new book titled, “The Wild Lavender Bookshop” on April 24th. That book is part of a series she calls “Someday Valley”.

Usually it's the release of the book that causes excitement, but there is another layer to all of this. A previous series Thomas wrote entitled “Ransom Canyon” has caught the eye of some important people.

Now, "Ransom Canyon" is about to become a series on Netflix. Thomas recently signed a deal with the streaming giant to produce 10 episodes based on her "Ransom Canyon" series, and it's going to be loaded with some star power when it comes to actors.

A few of the cast members for the show include Josh Duhamel, Minka Kelly, and James Brolin. Yeah, I'm sure you've seen a few of the projects all of them have worked on. Depending on the success of the series, Thomas could see more of her literary gems turn into series on Netflix.

There is no release date for the series as of yet, but we'll be keeping a close eye on it.
