One doesn’t necessarily know what to expect of a Netflix dark comedy series from True Detective director Cary Fukunaga, but Jonah Hill in braids wasn’t high on that list. See the actor totally transformed for Netflix’s Maniac, in first photos alongside co-star Emma Stone.

JustJared shared a few Long Island set photos from production, as a slimmed-down Jonah Hill is seen rocking braids and tattoos for his role in the 10-episode, Norwegian-adapted series. Stone is also visible in additional photos at the link, though nothing quite so drastic as Hill:

The Leftovers writer Patrick Somerville adapts the series, while Fukunaga, Stone and Hill will executive produce the Paramount TV project with Anonymous Content’s Michael Sugar and Doug Wald. Fukunaga directs all episodes of the new 10-episode series, remaking the 2014 Norwegian drama of a man living a fantasy life in his dreams, but in reality locked up at an institution.

Additional stars for the project include Leftovers alum Justin Theroux, Girls star Jemima Kirke, Julia Garner, Sonoya Mizuno and more. Watch the original Maniac trailer below, and stay tuned for more news on the 2018 remake.
