According to Billboard, the Grammy-nominated rapper-producer wanted Coachella co-founder Paul Tollett and the organizers to construct a giant, custom-built dome for him in the middle of the festival grounds instead of on the maincstage. The elaborate stage production would have been built by Kanye’s collaborator and set designer John McGuire.

Executives at Goldenvoice, which produces the annual festival, told Kanye that building a dome within four months is logistically impossible because they would have to remove a large section of port-a-potties and rearrange the festival grounds.

So when the festival organizers said no to Kanye's request, 'Ye reportedly got irritated and declared that he’s an artist with a creative vision and doesn’t have time talking about portable bathrooms. Finally, while on vacation, the G.O.O.D. Music leader told them during a phone call that it was Goldenvoice's job to handle the portable bathrooms and abruptly hanged up.

After that, Tollett and his team at Goldenvoice talked with music manager Scooter Braun to see if his client Ariana Grande would headline the event. She agreed.
