A Dumas man has been indicted by a Potter County grand jury in the death of 2 year old Jalen Hall-Mayes.  Derek Dwayne Henderson, 31, faces charges of injury to a child after he allegedly shook a toddler just hours before the child died.

Jalen died at BSA hospital of head and brain trauma according to the complaint.

The indictment was released yesterday, where authorities say Henderson shook the toddler.

Amarillo Globe News reports:

About 8:45 p.m. July 3, Jalen’s mother left
the toddler, who was in good health, in Henderson’s care, she told police. About 30 minutes later, Henderson called the mother and told her something was wrong with Jalen, the complaint said.

The mother rushed home to find Jalen unconscious and raced to BSA, where the child died at 10:15 p.m., authorities said.

An autopsy by Dr. Thomas Parsons revealed that Jalen died of “cranio-cerebral trauma that is inconsistent with a fall or an accident and is consistent with shaking the baby."

Child Protective Services confirms that the mother and child have no prior history with CPS.

The charges Henderson is facing carry a possible prison term ranging 2-20 years and up to a $10,000 fine.

Henderson remains a free man, out on a $50,000 bond.

I say an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, Henderson needs to be shaken up by an angry mob.  Allegedly I said this...because the word "allegedly" seems to be keeping all kinds of crooks out of trouble here lately.
