The winter weather has officially wreaked havoc on Amarillo. The colder temps slid in over the past few days, and now the snow has begun.

What's amazing is how quickly the road conditions deteriorated throughout the morning. At 6 am, roads were clear. By 6:45 am, snow was covering almost every road in Amarillo. By 7:30 am, they were slick and nearly undriveable.

The conditions went backwards too late for schools to shift to either a late start or cancel altogether, so chances are schools will remain in session all day. However, as people began to drive into to work, they realized they were going to be late.

Employers were called, who were also having issues getting in, and this started leading to businesses closing early or opting not to open for the day.

Well, the snow has also impacted Coffee Memorial Blood Center. They were schedule to have three different mobile blood drives today, January 9th, but the road conditions are too bad to get the trucks out on the road, so they've had to cancel.

Between those three mobile donation locations, there were 100 donations that had to be cancelled, thus creating a major need to make up for those lost donations. Blood is something we desperately need in the city, so these are major losses.

They are open at their location at 7500 Wallace Blvd today until 5:30 pm if you can navigate the roads, as well as Friday from 8 am to 4 pm, and Saturday & Sunday from 8 am to 12 pm.
