Every year millions of people flock to their television sets to watch the biggest game of the year, the Superbowl.  Advertisers know this, that is why NBC has not only sold out commercial slots, but they also have a waiting list.

It seems that every year Superbowl commercials get more and more creative.  This year is no different.  Sources say that advertisers have bought more time this year to show just how creative they can be.

This year spots are costing $3.5 million for 30 seconds and some time slots as much as $4 million.  And NBC said they sold the last available spot around Thanksgiving.

Superbowl spots are in such demand that there is a waiting list.  If an advertiser decides not to run its spots, the ones waiting will have an opportunity to advertise.

NBC has already seen a few of the spots.  Seth Winter, senior vice president of NBC Sports group sales & marketing, said in a recent interview that:

"Some of the things I've seen are astonishing," Winter said. "I think you'll see a lot of ads that are humorous and action-filled, with a range of different types of executions. We haven't seen everything yet; we don't see everything until almost the week of (the game)."

"There are the usual companies that have supported it in the past," Winter said. "Automotive will be very healthy. Beverages will be very healthy. The movie and snack category continue to be healthy. There will be a few new players and some who have been there, who won't be there."

NBC will not say who has bought and who hasn't because they don't want to tip off competitors, but I'm sure we will see Anheuser-Busch and GoDaddy.com.

The Superbowl XLVI takes place on February 5th.  Here are some of the commercials from last year.
