Amarillo isn't exactly known for its nightlife, but there are plenty of places to be able to go out and have a good time. We do have quite a few bars around the city as well as some places where you can go and dance the night away if your little heart desires.

However, those places have a tendency to be younger crowds, and while there's nothing wrong with that, our tastes change a bit as we get older. We don't want to be in crowded places where we can barely move and it's so loud we can't hear the person sitting right next to us.

So I started looking into places where the "older" crowd could go. You know, those places where the majority of people are at least in their mid-30s and just enjoying a few drinks and friendly conversation. I mean, us older people still like to go out and have a good time.

So here's a few places I found that are perfect for an entertaining, yet quieter and less hectic experience.

PARAMOUNT RECREATION CLUB

Located in the basement of The Barfield, this is an incredible place to hang out and enjoy a couple of drinks. The atmosphere is upscale and laid-back, which is exactly the kind of place I enjoy these days. I'm not an upscale person, but this place makes me feel like I am.

Offering up some vintage drinks and incredible new concoctions, the drink menu is something that simply can't be matched in Amarillo. You'll get that vibe of what it was like to be hanging out in a secret place during prohibition. I highly recommend checking it out if you haven't already.

LIT ARCADE BAR

Located on Polk St., this is one of the best mixtures of everything you could want in a bar. Yes, you could just post up at the bar and hang out while having a couple of drinks, but why would you want to with all the fun waiting for you away from the bar?

With all the old-school video games that you grew up playing waiting for you, it'll be difficult to stay away. All the classics are there, and games you forgot even existed. If video games aren't your thing, pool tables are there to hop on and shoot a game or two. Not overly loud, and not so crowded you can't move, it'll make you feel like you're in your early 20s again, but without all the sweating bodies dancing on you.

SKOOTERZ BAR & GRILL

If you want to venture out towards Route 66 and take in the atmosphere on the iconic road, then Skooterz is where you need to be. Not only do they have one of the longest happy hours in Amarillo, from 11 am to 7 pm, they run specials every single weekday that you can take advantage of.

They've also been known to bring in live music from some of the best local bands in Amarillo, so imagine going to a little concert that isn't overly crowded and standing shoulder-to-shoulder with thousands of people you don't know. Sounds like my kind of place.

PINE SHED BAR

Here's one that's a nod to the old-school bars. They do such a good job of blending all the things we LOVED about going out when we were younger, yet giving us those things we enjoy now that we're a bit older.

The good ol' $2 U-Call-It shows up every Thursday, and it runs basically all night long. From 2-11 pm, you're drinking on the cheap, and that was one of my favorite nights to go out. They also run karaoke every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday which is something I know I didn't enjoy doing until I got older. Fair warning, I'm not a good singer.

METROPOLITAN

This one is on the other end of town by Cinergy, but it's not one that should be forgotten. Another place that gives off that speakeasy vibe, but comes with one of the most incredible food menus, you're getting an experience and a half here.

Michelin Star Executive Chef Nori Karimi puts together a menu your taste buds will die for, and with all the different drink infusions they have to offer, it's a culinary experience you can't miss. Add in the laid-back experience and vibe of the Metropolitan and it's literally the perfect night out for anyone over the age of 30.
