Amarillo is home to some of my favorite coffee shops. The Palace Coffee shop on Polk and 806 Coffee+Lounge are my haunts in town when it comes to getting a cup of coffee.

A friend of mine recently asked me about ordering coffee. They suffer from anxiety every time they go into a new coffee shop, and I can relate.

Every coffee shop does things differently. They all have their own unique quirks and specialties.

If you're like me, you just want an old fashioned cup of black coffee. I know that I like a dark roast full of flavor and on the bitter side. For me, I love a good French roast. If you don't like your coffee that bitter, go for a breakfast blend or a light roast for a more mild experience.

If you're stopping at just a cup of coffee, it isn't that complicated. But what about lattes and cold coffees? What about something sweet?

Lattes are basically milk and espresso. Mochas are lattes with chocolate for something sweeter. Cappuccinos are milk, espresso, and foam.  Don't be afraid to ask questions.

When placing an order, decide if you want it hot or iced. Think about room for extra shots of espresso or any other additions you may want to make. Then settle on a size. Ask the barista about flavors if you're unsure.

I'll always recommend Palace on Polk for a cup of coffee. The staff there was great when it came to helping me try new things when it comes to coffee. I recommend the Americano.
