It's been a rough go with celebrities passing away lately, but none seemed to have rocked us more than Ozzy Osbourne. The Prince of Darkness just performed at his final show two weeks prior to his passing.

Ozzy had a pretty rich history in Texas, all the way down to getting banned from being able to play in San Antonio after he urinated on a monument near the Alamo. He ultimately apologized for the incident and donated $10,000 to the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, which maintains the Alamo.

Rich History In Amarillo

I know if you look at the live music scene now in Amarillo, we don't seem to get the biggest artists to come through and perform. However, it wasn't always that way. Amarillo used to get its fair share of big-time artists.

Black Sabbath and Ozzy were a part of that music history in Amarillo, and I thought it would be fun to look back on the times they rolled through Amarillo to play.

First Trip To Amarillo

The first show Ozzy and Black Sabbath played in Amarillo was on October 15, 1971. They played the Amarillo Civic Center Coliseum, and it was the original Black Sabbath lineup that performed.

Ticket prices for the show ranged from a whole $3.50 to $5.50 per ticket, which I get was probably a fair amount back then, but crazy to think they only cost that much to see one of the most legendary rock bands ever.

There isn't an exact set list anywhere for the show, unless you were there and remember it, but a typical set list from the tour looked like this:

N.I.B.
War Pigs
Sweet Leaf
Black Sabbath
Iron Man
Embryo
Children of the Grave
Wicked World
Guitar Solo
Drum Solo
Paranoid
Fairies Wear Boots

Black Sabbath Comes Back To Amarillo

The second time they came through was November 21, 1978, and played the Amarillo Civic Center for the Never Say Die! tour. This would ultimately be the last time Black Sabbath would come through Amarillo with Ozzy as their lead singer. He was kicked out of the group in 1979 for drug and alcohol use that was affecting his ability to make it to practice and rehearsals.

Black Sabbath would return two more times during their Born Again tour in 1983 AND 1984, both years with a date of February 1. These shows would be sans Ozzy.

Ozzy Comes To Amarillo As A Solo Artist

It would be nearly 11 years before we'd see Ozzy here in Amarillo, but he rolled back through and played the Amarillo Civic Center before Black Sabbath would come through in '83 and '84.

Ozzy took the stage as part of his Diary Of A Madman tour on February 28, 1982. The set list for that concert, according to Setlist.fm, was packed with solo songs, a Randy Rhoads guitar solo, and he closed the show with some Black Sabbath songs. The setlist is below:

Over The Mountain
Mr. Crowley
Crazy Train
Revelation (Mother Earth)
Steal Away (The Night)
Suicide Solution
Guitar Solo (Randy Rhoads)
Drum Solo (Tommy Aldridge)
Goodbye To Romance
I Don't Know
No Bone Movies
Believer
Flying High Again
Iron Man (Black Sabbath song)
Children Of The Grave (Black Sabbath song)

Encore:
Paranoid (Black Sabbath song)
