Paris Jackson Tells Fans to Stop Editing Her Skin Color: ‘I Am What I Am’
Paris Jackson wants fans to stop editing her skin color online.
The 19-year-old actress and model called out her followers in an tweet Tuesday for lightening and darkening her complexion in social media posts.
"i appreciate everything y'all make for me, i enjoy every edit i see. but please stop lightening my skin to make me look more white. and please stop darkening my skin to make me look more mixed," Jackson wrote.
"i am what i am," she told her 1.3 million Twitter followers. "i'm aware of what i look like and i [am] finally happy with it.."
Jackson followed up in a tweet Wednesday after a fan questioned her use of "mixed."
"sometimes peeps say i 'don't look mixed enough to be bi racial,'" she responded.
Jackson is the daughter of late singer Michael Jackson, who was African-American, and Debbie Rowe, who is Caucasian. She said in an interview with Rolling Stone published in January 2017 that she identifies as black.
"I consider myself black," the star said before recalling how Michael encouraged her to be "proud" of her heritage.
"Most people that don't know me call me white," she acknowledged. "I've got light skin and, especially since I've had my hair blonde, I look like I was born in Finland or something."
Jackson attended the Los Angeles premiere of her movie Gringo on Tuesday. The film co-stars David Oyelowo, Charlize Theron, Joel Edgerton, Amanda Seyfried and Thandie Newton, and opens in theaters Friday.
