It's official!

While speaking in the Rose Garden this morning (February 15th), President Donald Trump declared a national emergency so he can attempt to get the money from other federal funds for his border wall in spite signing a bipartisan budget agreement.

According to CNN, the border deal includes $1.4 billion for border fencing, which is far below the $5.7 billion he wants for a border wall.

With this national emergency President Trump will try to get funds targeting military construction and anti-drug efforts.  Just before the announcement Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced the same thing on the Senate floor, and agreed to support it while other Republican senators opposed it.

This is where things get tricky because the it would set for future Democratic presidents who could use it to enact priorities they couldn't get through Congress.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer released a joint statement blasting the national emergency calling it a lawless act and a gross abuse of power.

Legal action from Democratic state attorneys general are considering taking legal action to block the move.
