
Flash Bang Grenades, SWAT Standoff Kickstart a Wild Wednesday for Amarillo Area
Wednesday started off with a bang for two neighborhoods in Amarillo.
According to an alert sent out by Amarillo Police Department on the morning of May 3, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1000-block of Stuart Drive for a male with a warrant for his arrest.
On arrival, the male refused to leave the residence and officers were informed that the individual was in possession of a firearm.
The APD Critical Incident Response Team was subsequently called out to the residence as part of standard operating procedure for standoffs. As per the release, the area from southeast 10th and Stuart to southeast 14th and Stuart has been blocked off to through traffic.
As of the time of this publishing, the incident is ongoing.
Double Trouble in Southlawn
But there's more! The joint has been jumpin' for local law enforcement on this Wild Wednesday morning.
Several posts were made in a social media group for residents of the Southlawn neighborhood in reference to "what the heck is going on at 45th & Washington street?"
A video was then posted by Kayla Connors, who said she witnessed members of a uniformed task force team deploy at least one flash bang grenade over the fence of a corner property while idling at the stoplight.
While there are no readily apparent details available from area law enforcement as to the incident, several members of the public stated they observed at least one woman escorted from the property in handcuffs by police.
