This is a sad one here!  An Amarillo man, Arturo Morales, has been arrested for animal cruelty after Randall County Sheriffs seized/saved 52 animals that were in less than poor living conditions.  The conditions were so bad, living animals were eating dead animals just to stay alive!

9 deputies spent 4 hours gathering up the animals, ranging from birds like peacocks, to horses, llamas and more.

Amarillo Globe News reports:

Sheriff’s Office spokesman Danny Alexander said. Charged with seven counts of animal cruelty, Arturo Morales, 55, was released Friday from the Randall County jail on $1,500 bond, authorities said.

The seizure culminated a 1½-year investigation, Alexander said.

A couple of animals, including a horse, were euthanized, Alexander said. Authorities also found dead animals left in pens with live animals for long periods of time, he said.

The birds are currently living at the animal control center, while the remaining animals are caged up at the Randall County Sheriff's office for the time being.

This is sick!  Living animals having to eat the dead animals they were caged up with just to stay alive.  Many animals were escaping just so they could seek out food and water!

Amarillo Globe News:

Each charge Morales faces is a class A misdemeanor, Alexander said, punishable by up to one year in prison and up to a $4,000 fine.

Ralston said authorities will take care of the animals until Morales’ court hearing during which a judge may return the animals to Morales or place them under county ownership.

Hopefully, the judge doesn't return the animals to the hands of this man that seems to have very little concern about their well being.  If the animals are awarded to the county, they will work diligently to get non-profit organizations to house and take care of them.
