Amarillo’s Massive Rockrose Sports Complex Is Taking Shape
It's something I've been overly excited for for Amarillo, and it's the kids. They all deserve a premier facility to play sports in, especially with the growth we've seen over the years. I've seen it personally with baseball, as there are more and more travel teams forming each year.
Every sport is growing, though. Football is as popular as ever, and soccer has seen a big boom over the last few years as well. However, we never had that ONE facility that could host all those events and host them properly.

Rockrose Sports Complex Coming Along
A couple of weeks ago, I couldn't contain my excitement when I found out they were laying the turf down on the baseball and softball fields. Sure, it was a selfish excitement for me since baseball is the primary sport in my household. However, I was excited about how many kids were going to get to experience the game on a freshly turfed field.
If you drive past where Rockrose is going to be, you'll notice it's more than just the baseball and softball fields coming along. There are poles up everywhere, and you can start to get an idea of what's being done. It was once just a giant pile of dirt; now, you can see the skeleton of what the place is going to look like.
Latest Update From Kids Inc.
We got an update from Kids Inc. yesterday, talking about everything that's being done, what's close to completion, and everything else in store. Yes, the baseball and softball fields were mentioned prominently as they've come a long way. They added that the shade structures over the bleachers for those fields are coming along as well. Parents will be THRILLED to hear they will be shaded.
Another thing they mentioned was the covered pavilion on the multipurpose field side of the complex. Let me tell you how needed this is for tournaments. When you have a game break in between your games, finding shade for the kids to relax in is almost impossible at any complex we currently have for any sport. This is so needed. They also mentioned the concessions area, and restrooms are getting ready to be built at the 90-acre facility. Exciting things are happening!
