What Happened To Sakura? It’s Back Up For Sale
It was an Amarillo staple for quite some time, and widely known as THE place to go in the city if you were looking for a Japanese steakhouse experience.
In fact, when I asked someone who used to work here where to go for that, Sakura was immediately brought up to me. We decided to go, and honestly had a great time.
The food itself was solid, the chef was great, and my kids had a great time. Then, surprisingly, in 2024, they shut their doors and put the building up for sale.
Wasn't The Sakura Building Bought
Late in 2024, the Sakura building was indeed purchased or leased, and it was said that everything inside would remain the same.
In other words, the doors would reopen, and it would be exactly how you remembered it.
When Was It Going To Reopen
There was never any official word on plans for the restaurant. The for sale signs disappeared one day, and when we heard it was going to remain the same, I think we all assumed it wouldn't take long to get the doors open again.
However, the weeks and months went by. Nothing. No movement, no chatter about an opening date, just silence.
Sakura Is Now Available Again
I drove past it one day about a week or so ago, and noticed the grass had grown out of control. It had me wondering if anything was happening with it. The place appeared to be abandoned at that point.
A couple of days later, I drove past it again. Bam. Sign up, Sakura is available again. So now we are stuck wondering if Sakura will ever resurface again, or if it'll become something else. All we know is it's available once again.
