Amarillo Seniors Throw Big Bash to Renovate Community Center
Amarillo is full of families and older people, and it's a perfect place for those people. The city doesn't move too fast, it's not overwhelming, and it's very welcoming for people of all ages.
There are some great senior communities in the area, and the seniors in town are extremely lively and vibrant. They love to party still, and they're getting ready to throw one heck of a parking lot party for everyone to come and enjoy.

What Is The 55+ Club
Initially known as the Seniors Citizens Center Committee, they felt they needed a cooler name so they changed it up to the 55+ Club. Their sole purpose is to give seniors in Amarillo a place to be social and do activities.
Their big project right now is renovating a building on Sixth St., so those seniors have a place to go and be able to do those things.
Funding Was Supposed To Come From the City of Amarillo
A federal grant was given to the City of Amarillo, and some of the funds from that grant were supposed to be distributed to them to be able to renovate the building. However, the funds never came.
The funds were ultimately distributed somewhere else, and now the group finds itself searching for money to do the renovations on the building they had already purchased.
How Much Do They Need
As of right now, the group has raised right around $350,000 between donations and other grants they pursued. However, it's not nearly enough for the work they need to do in order to get the center open.
Just to complete the first phase of the renovation, they need to raise around another $800,000, and that's not the easiest thing to do.
A Party In Amarillo
In order to help raise the funds, the 55+ Club has decided to throw a parking lot party at the building they purchased to help raise funds for the project. There will be door prizes, food, live music from Geezers Gone Wild, tours of the building, entertainment, and so much more.
The party will happen on Friday, August 8, from 5 pm to 8 pm, and it'll take place in the parking lot of the building at 2404 SW 6th Ave. It's all about showing off the building and trying to raise funds. Donations will be paramount to its success, but they're also willing to sell a room with your name on it for the right amount. Get out and support!
