There is always a palpable excitement in the air when a new event is announced in Amarillo. We are known to have many different types of events in the city, but rarely is it something like a music festival.

So when “Sod-Town Fest” was announced, it was something that absolutely fired up the city. A music festival to be held inside HODGETOWN, well, simply put, it was an announcement to all of us that things are about to change.

Sod-Town Fest Canceled

The notice came out Tuesday, July 8, saying that "Sod-Town Fest" had been postponed to a later date. There was no announcement of a new date, simply that it had been postponed.

An event that seemingly had a lot of steam and excitement behind it, and a Sunday brunch that had sold out WELL in advance of the event happening, was inexplicably canceled.

Why Was Sod-Town Fest Postponed

This is where it gets interesting. No true reason was given for the postponement of the event. In a press release sent out, Sod Poodles President and General Manager Tony Ensor stated:

“We are disappointed to share such news so close to the start of the festival. There was a lot to like about what we had in store for Sod-Town Fest, but we collectively saw it best to postpone the event in order to ensure a top-tier experience at our facility. We are in the business of making great memories for our fans on a daily basis and we want that purpose to be reflected in the non-baseball events we host.“

Yes, a statement, but no real teeth to it or reasons as to WHY the event was ultimately postponed. Furthermore, the website and Facebook page for the event were both pulled down and aren't accessible any longer.

Who Was Putting On Sod-Town Fest

It was a collaborative effort between HODGETOWN and Family Support Services of Amarillo. In the same press release, Brandi Reed, the CEO of Family Support Services of Amarillo, stated:

“It is a shame we had to delay the festival, but the partnership with HODGETOWN and the Sod Poodles has been a fantastic collaboration thus far. We look forward to seeing how we can reimagine what would have been a wonderful event for all Amarillans to enjoy.”

Now, if you're like me and enjoy reading between the lines, it SOUNDS like there was either a logistical issue in pulling it all off, or maybe ticket sales weren't where they needed them to be in order to hold the event. In any capacity, it does sound like they have every intention of having the event, just at a later date.
