Alessia Cara got emotional yesterday while thanking fans for helping make "Here" a chart topping hit.

She posted:

About 3 years ago, I played my mom a song. I told her 'mom, this song is going to change my life.' On May 1st, 2015, we released that same song to the world. It was the first original I had ever released and we put it out on SoundCloud, not even as a single. This was the song people said wasn't 'safe; enough for radio. This was the song nobody would play on their stations at first because it was different. This was the song at the bottom of everybody's list.
Today, it finally made its way to number 1, and it's absolutely changed my life. I can't help but be proud of something I fought for and believed in for so long. I couldn't be more grateful for my little song that could & I couldn't be happier with the amount of people resonating with it. Shoutout to anyone who's ever told me I was onto something in the very beginning, to all the radio stations who played it when no one else would, to all the people who feel like the lyrics gave them a voice they didn't know they needed, to my team for taking a chance and my radio fam for pushing so incredibly hard for me.'
