It seems the trend nowadays is for businesses to come and go; this is especially true in the restaurant industry. Back in November, Baker Brothers American Deli closed it's doors in Wolflin Square. But lucky for us, that space will soon see a new tenant. Amarillo will have it's first Firehouse Subs later this year!

A few things set them apart from the rest. We'll get to the food in just a moment, but first let's cover what they do for the community. Firehouse Subs was started by former firefighter brothers Robin and Chris Sorensen. A portion of purchases each year at all U.S. locations goes to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, used to provide lifesaving equipment for first responders. In 2017, they have pledged to donate at least $1,000,000 with a total of over $25,000,000 to the foundation since it's inception. You can learn more about their charitable work here.

Now, on to the subs!... Their signature sub is the Hook and Ladder - smoked turkey breast, Virginia honey ham, and melted Monterrey Jack, served "Fully Involved" which includes mayo, deli mustard, lettuce, tomato, onion, and a kosher dill pickle on the side. They also offer the usual suspects like Club, Tuna, Italian, Meatball, Steak & Cheese, and more. And their subs are offered up a little differently - they steam the meats and cheeses before loading their fresh, toasted rolls up. Firehouse says this is to unlock a rush of flavors.

There are more than 1,000 Firehouse Sub locations across the U.S. with a handful in Lubbock, OKC, and Albuquerque. The new Firehouse will be at 1901 S. Georgia Street with no word on the exact opening date yet.
