It wasn't that long ago that Texas touted itself as one of the states with the fewest restrictions due to Covid-19. A lot has changed in the past couple of months.

According to an update on the WalletHub study regarding states with the fewest restrictions due to Covid-19, the Lone Star State now ranks 46. That shouldn't be surprising considering the mandates that have recently come down from the state capitol.

We now have a statewide mask mandate; plus the rollback on reopening bars and restaurant capacity, and restrictions on large outdoor gatherings.

Back on May 5, WalletHub's study had us ranked at number 8.

There are a lot of factors that go into this study. WalletHub looks at mask mandates, travel restrictions, restrictions on large gatherings, the school year, restaurants and bars being open, child care programs opening, and several more metrics.

Personally, I do not think it is a bad thing to say that "yes, we have restrictions in place." I also don't think the ranking is necessarily good or bad on its own, especially considering how many states have restrictions in place.

For me, the interesting thing to notice is how far down the list we've gone, or how far up the list we've gone depending on how you look at it. It shows a change in thinking, at least from a government standpoint. For example, masks went from being just a recommendation to a requirement.

California is the state with the most restrictions due to Covid-19. South Dakota is the state with the least, which is understandable. A friend of mine who lived there after high school once told me it was pretty much nothing but buffalo.
