If you have lived in the Amarillo area for any amount of time, you have most likely been the victim of a neighborhood crime or know someone who has. Myself, for instance, have had 7 incidents where someone either stole something from my property, broken into my vehicle, or vandalized someone on my property. It seems like these petty crimes have only increased over the years and in some cases are becoming violet.

Last week, on November 14th and 15th, law enforcement agencies from all across the Texas panhandle partnered in an operation called Project Safe Neighborhood. Officers of the Amarillo Police Department, the Potter County Sheriff’s Office, the Randall County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and agents from multiple federal agencies including the United States Marshals Service, Homeland Security Investigations, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Federal Bureau of Investigations all came together for this operation. Law enforcement were able to arrest 25 persons for outstanding arrest warrants, drug and weapon offenses, and other violent crimes. Law enforcement was also able to recover 1 stolen vehicle, 2 firearms, and drugs, including marijuana, methamphetamines, and heroin.

As always, anyone with information about a crime that has been committed, is encouraged to contact local law enforcement officials.
