There’s a New Shortage In Amarillo. This One Hits The Arcade.
I'm starting to lose track of all the "shortages" we've experienced. There's another one affecting the area, and it's hitting the arcade.
Now there is a token shortage affecting arcades. At least that's according to a social media post made earlier today by Lit downtown.
This Has To Be A Joke, Right?!
Lit is the arcade-bar downtown in case you've been living under a rock and haven't heard about it. Unfortunately, they're going to have to get their machines set to accept quarters, as well as tokens. Thanks of course to a "token shortage."
I did some digging, and this is honestly not the first instance of this being talked about in the US. I was able to dig up more than one article about "token shortages" affecting arcade-bars.
It honestly strikes me as pretty odd, but definitely not the strangest thing we've heard. We all lived through the great toilet paper shortage of 2020.
Where Did The Tokens Go?
Oddly enough, people pocket tokens. Enough people pocket enough tokens, and you need to get more. It happened at a car wash I managed for a while. People get the tokens, use less than what they planned on, and make off with the rest.
At least, that's the simplest explanation I was able to find. As with everything, I was able to find articles written about materials needed to make certain tokens being hard to find.
Honestly, the list of shortages we're dealing with is starting to get a bit nutty.
Are Quarters Really That Bad?
At the end of their post, Lit apologizes for the inconvenience. I don't know that any form of apology is needed. Instead, they should apologize for the convenience. Now you have options.
It also helps get coins back in circulation, which according to a few different articles I've read, is the real culprit to the coin shortage.
Either way, if you're into playing classic arcade games and enjoy having a drink while you do, be sure to check out Lit Arcade Bar downtown.
