Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Texas Panhandle is pleased to announce a partnership with Amarillo Police Department in a new initiative - Bigs in Blue.

The purpose of the program is to outreach positive adult volunteers to serve as mentors of children in need of an additional role model.  We recently had the privilege of speaking to members of our police force about the need for volunteers in Amarillo.

Both of our programs were presented to the officers.  In the Community Based Program, the volunteer spends an average of 4 or more hours per month with their Little.  In the Site Based Program, the volunteer will have lunch at school with their Little 2 to 4 times per month.  Currently, the need is especially great for male volunteers, as most youths in need of a mentor are male.

Big Brothers Big Sisters’ mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally-supported, one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.  We have a commitment to our community and its most vulnerable resource – our children.
