One of the top crimes committed in Amarillo is burglary, and one happened on October 6th that is kind of mind-blowing, if you ask me. It happened at the Toot'n Totum at 1627 Grand St., and it's not even like it happened that late at night.

I've been inside that Toot'n Totum many times. It's right there near the Rick Klein baseball fields, so may convenience store stops for waters, snacks, etc. during tournament weekends. It's a relatively small one compared to others, so the options are a bit more limited than others.

Smash-And-Grab Robbery At Night

On October 6th, police were dispatched around 11:45 pm once an alarm went off inside the store. The suspect gained entry by throwing a rock through the front door. Now, that area can still be relatively busy at that time of night, so I feel like someone had to have noticed something.

Normally, these take place in the early morning hours, after, say, 1 am or later when it's quiet, and very few people are out. The suspect apparently got away with $10,000 in merchandise before they escaped into the alley and got away.

What Do You Take At Toot'n Totum Worth $10,000

That number, $10,000. Legitimately, what do you take from a convenience store that can total up to $10,000 and you can get away without needing a U-Haul truck? I mean, there's only so many snacks and drinks one can want, and even then you're talking about $3-8 items.

So I got to thinking about what they could've taken. Alcohol comes to mind; that totals up quickly, but still, how much would you need to take? Once my mind got past thinking about hot dogs, it dawned on me. Tobacco and lottery tickets. Those to me would be the easiest things to get away with, especially scratch-off tickets. Doesn't take much to grab stacks of those and run.

There's no word as of yet as to what was taken, but if I had to guess, someone has a very messy table at home with those silver scratch-off shards that get left everywhere. My guess? They didn't get their $10,000 back...even though they didn't spend it.
