One thing Amarillo is really good about is having different types of events we can attend. We love when new events come together in the city, especially when they are something different and unique.

We have an event that is getting ready to roll through the city, and it's one they've been trying to get off the ground a couple of different times. It looks like this is going to be the time they actually get it.

Water lantern festivals are typically one of the more enjoyable festivals in the country, and THE Water Lantern Festival has been rated as the best festival period. Now, it's coming to Amarillo.

On October 5 at Thompson Lake House Building, they're bringing their one-of-a-kind event to town, and it promises to be one of the coolest things to happen at Thompson Park.

If you don't know what the festival is or have never seen or built your own water lantern, take a look at this.

Aside from building the actual water lantern itself, I love the different things people write on them. Some write their hopes and dreams, others their goals, while many will write the names of loved ones they've lost.

The event itself will be packed with all sorts of fun. Starting at 5:30 pm, the gates will open and Thompson Park will be filled with all sorts of things to do. Food trucks will be on-site, along with live music and plenty of other things to keep yourself and the family busy.

At 8 pm, the real meat of the festival gets underway with the building of your lantern. By 8:30 pm, the lanterns will begin to be launched into the water. The launch will last until 9:30 pm, which at that point, all lanterns will be in the water light up the lake.

Tickets for the event are on sale now, and the price is getting ready to jump. Today, September 23rd is the last day you have to get tickets for the event at just $24.99. After that, they jump up $20 to $44.99 per ticket, so save yourself some money and get tickets today.
