West Plains Football Has Its Next Head Coach
Just about a month ago, an Amarillo high school got some shocking news. It sent waves through the community and left many to wonder...what's next? After building up a brand new school into a football powerhouse in just four seasons, change reared its ugly head.
However, the future is still very bright for this now-powerhouse football program as the change that came has ended with what appears to be a positive resolution. Now, it'll have to play out on the field and see if the right decision was made.
Adam Cummings Steps Down As Head Football Coach
It was something I'm not sure anyone saw coming. After turning West Plains into a powerhouse football program in Texas in just four seasons, Cummings stepped down from the helm of what immediately became one of the hottest jobs on the market.
Cummings didn't leave to coach another program; instead, he advanced his career. Cummings was named the new Director of Schools & Leadership in CISD, and since it was a district job and not one within the school, he had to abandon his post as the man roaming the sidelines for the Wolves.
West Plains Welcomes Jeff Lofton
The good news for the Wolfpack is they didn't have to look far to find his successor. He has been roaming the sidelines with Cummings the past four years. Now, former assistant head coach Jeff Lofton will be able to remove assistant from his title and simply call himself the head football coach of West Plains.
Lofton has been a huge piece of building the program and culture into what it is today, so West Plains can expect the program to continue down the path they've been on for the last four years. Yes, expectations will be high, but Lofton is ready to take them on.
