It always saddens us when a someone dies.  The skiing community has suffered a loss today.  Freestyling skiing superstar Sarah Burke past away today from recent skiing injuries.

If you follow winter sports, then the name Sarah Burke will be familiar.  She is a freestyling skiing legend.  Not only does she amaze us with her talent, but she is a 4-time X Games gold metal winner.

On January 10th of this year, Burke was training at the Park City Mountain Resort superpipe in Utah when she had an unfortunate accident.  The 29 year old crashed very hard.  Burke went into cardiac arrest shortly after the accident.  Paramedics were able to  resuscitate her and airlifted her to a nearby hospital.  There she underwent major surgery to repair a tear in a major artery.

Unfortunately Sarah's injuries were too severe and she was placed on life support.  After a long battle, she passed away surrounded by her family and loved ones.

She is survived by her husband, fellow freestyle skier Rory Bushfield. Our thoughts are with her family and friends.
