You Always Remember Where You Were When It All Went Down
As we remember 9/11, where were you when it all happened? Here's my story:
I was working in radio in Fayetteville, AR at the time. Since I didn't have to be at work until 10am, I was snoozing away when my midday DJ called and said, "Should we break into full time coverage or just do updates as we get them?" I said just do updates. Then I asked him what exactly was happening. He told me about the plane hitting one of the towers. I immediately jumped out of bed and turned on the TV right after the second plane hit. I was stunned and horrified but I couldn't stop watching. When the towers fell, my jaw literally fell open and I couldn't move. Somehow, I was able to get around and get to the station and we took a full coverage feed from MSNBC (that's who Clear Channel Radio partnered with at the time). We stayed in full time coverage for 2 1/2 days. It felt weird going back to playing music, but it was also soothing in a way. It meant the world was getting back to as normal as it could.
I can't believe it's been 14 years.
