Counterfeit Money Found In Amarillo

Wow! When the Secret Service starts investigating a case in your city, you've made it on the map! That's federal stuff there! Counterfeit $10 & $20 bills have been found in Amarillo, and 2 men have been charged on the counterfeiting money scheme. It's been reported that Sonic Drive-In and United Supermarkets have both ended up with counterfeit bills. There's probably a lot more floating around out there. I blame this all on computers and Miley Cyrus!

Amarillo Police:

"On August 21, APD officers were sent to the Sonic in the 1700 block of S Western reference a counterfeit bill. Officers spoke with employees who stated that two W/M’s in a dark colored SUV had paid for their order with a counterfeit $10 bill. The employees had obtained a particle license plate of the suspect vehicle; however the suspects were gone prior to officer’s arrival.

On August 29th, APD offices were sent to the United in the 5800 block of SW 45th on a counterfeit bill. In this incident the suspect had paid for merchandise with 3 counterfeit $10’s and one counterfeit $20. The employees were able to provide a description of the suspect. Later that same day, the suspect returned to the store to return some merchandise that he had purchased with the counterfeit money. An alert employee notified other employees and the suspect was detained until police arrived. The subject was questioned, later arrested and booked into the Randall County Jail.

After further investigation, cases were prepared and presented to both Randall Co DA’s office and the 47th District Attorney’s office for review. Nicholas Hadden W/M19 has been charged by both Randall Co and the 47th District Attorney’s office for Forgery of a Government document. Christopher Curtis Garrett W/M 24 has been charged with Forgery of a Government document by the Randall County DA’s office.

Garrett was arrested and has since bonded out of Randall Co on the above charge. Hadden was arrested and has bonded out of Randall County however he still has an active warrant through Potter County for Forgery of a Government document."

This case is also being investigated by the Secret Service and additional charges are pending at the federal level. Those are federal charges! WOW!
