It seems that every where you go, someone is talking about a baby.  I love all babies!  But we've all been in the situation where the baby is super wrinkly or super red, so how do you avoid telling someone they have an ugly baby.

First off, I want to say that I think all babies are ugly when they are first born.  They just spent 9 months balled up in a sac of water.  But if you give them a little time to stretch out and get some air, they become beautiful.  Believe me my son looked super red, wrinkly and plain awkward, but that didn't stop me from saying he was the most beautiful baby ever.

Now with that being said, no new mother wants to hear 'Oh your baby will get cute, eventually.'  So what do you say to avoid hurting anyone's feeling?  Here is a list of 5 things you can do to avoid telling someone they have an ugly baby.

1.Focus on the Parents

Instead of bringing up the subject of how cute or beautiful the baby is, ask the new mom how she is doing.  'What does it feel like to be a mom?'

2. Focus on a different feature.

Maybe the baby has a lot of hair, you could say 'Oh my look at all that hair!'  Or 'What tiny fingers.'

3. Ask the parents questions

Simply say 'I can't decide which one of you the baby looks like, what do you think?'  This will get them talking and you listening.

4. Tell them the baby has a happy demeanor

Convince the parents that their baby is a happy baby and is already trying to smile.  All parents want a happy baby so this will definitely put a smile on their face.

5. Smile and nod

All parents think their baby is the prettiest baby in the world.  So they are most likely going to ask you something like 'Isn't she/he the cutest thing.'  Smile and nod!  All babies are precious so this isn't really a lie.

Babies are such a blessing!  They are so sweet and tiny.  New mother's are very sensitive so you don't want to be rude and hurt any feelings.  And if all else fails, just simply say congrats!
