There are a lot of changes this year due to Cornavirus. We are learning to wash our hands. That is probably the best thing happening. There are also a lot of things being cancelled.

SXSW in Austin was one of the first things we heard about being cancelled. Then the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The NCAA decided to play March Madness without fans (that of course means WTAMU games too). Last night it was the NBA. They decided to suspend all games until further notice. (That hurt my daughter because she asked for Mavericks tickets for a Christmas present....the game was supposed to be on the 23rd. Another missed opportunity)

Of course all of this does wreak havoc on the fans. The ones that have made plans and had tickets. It also means some opportunities for people may never come again. It's life. It's not cool but we have to think of the bigger picture. I remember when my daughter was playing club volleyball. The one year they had the chance to go to Nationals in Miami, Florida, was back when the bird flu happened. Nationals of course was cancelled. We never had another chance. Those are the things that hurt.

Yesterday Amarillo Independent School District had this message on their Facebook Page:

As the COVID-19 situation continues to rapidly evolve, we have been actively considering the ways in which our students and staff may be impacted. One of those considerations is school-sponsored travel. At this time, AISD is suspending out-of-state travel for students and staff as well as travel outside a 300-mile radius of Amarillo until further notice.

Reading further into the post I read how Amarillo High Band was supposed to leave for Disney World today. Of course that trip has been cancelled. There has also been school trips to San Antonio cancelled too. Trips to New York were cancelled too. Some of these trips are once in a lifetime. I get it. There are a lot of heartbroken students now I can tell you. It's a tough situation to be in but the district has to make tough choices sometimes. This just happens to be one of them.
