One thing Amarillo tends to be is generous. Sure, they don't ever seem to want their taxes to go up, no matter the reason, and while I can understand that, they still have generous hearts. We have more people here who have a good amount of money than we realize.

Some are very quiet about it and just go about their lives, some spend it like crazy, and others do philanthropic things with it. One of those families that does great things for the community is the Hodge family. They're Amarillo royalty and should be protected at all costs.

Hodge Loves First Responders

Mrs. Hodge has been a longtime supporter of our first responders, well over 30 years of support through her business. The Downtown Athletic Club has always gone above and beyond when it comes to supporting and taking care of law enforcement, EMS personnel, and firefighters.

In a press release, Mrs. Hodge recently stated, “Our area first responders leave their families every day to put their lives on the line for our community,” says Margaret. “I feel a deep commitment to ensure their heroic service and legacy are forever recognized and remembered.”

First Responder Memorial To Be Built

In order to preserve that legacy, Margaret and the Downtown Athletic Club have generously provided a gift of $100,000 to the Texas Panhandle First Responders Memorial that will be built at 11th and Polk.

The donation was made in honor of her late husband, Jerry Hodge, and was a gift of the heart of Margaret.

What Is A Day Like In Texas Prisons? A View From Both Sides Of The Bars

Have you ever wondered what life inside a Texas prison is really like? I asked friends who are correction officers and folks who have volunteered at jails. I also asked former inmates, and browsed forums and articles with current and former inmates. Put all together, it paints what I hope is a fairly accurate picture of daily prison life in Texas.
