A house fire took place at approximately 5:40pm yesterday evening in Amarillo on the 600 Block of South Lake St.  The building, a single family home, was empty at the time of the fire thankfully. The Amarillo Fire Dept. believes the blaze to have originated in the back from on the 1st floor of the structure.  Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the single building, and it caused an estimated $10,000 in damage.  The big question is, was this arson?  Officials say it may very well be!

The cause of the fire is still under investigation according to Pro News 7.

Now, here's the kicker, officials are saying the fire may have been set intentionally!

Police on scene said they were searching the area for juveniles suspected of starting the fire, and fire officials said they responded to dumpster fires near the South Lake Street house. The fire, which appeared to have started in a rear bedroom, caused $10,000 of damage to the vacant home, officials said.

Again, the cause is still under investigation.  If you have any information on the juveniles in question that are suspected of starting the fire, you can easily contact Amarillo Crime Stoppers and submit an anonymous tip at 806-374-4400, or you can submit your tip anonymously online.
