Amarillo Kids Summer Camps Some Are Planned While Others Cancel
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed how we interact on a daily basis and with summer quickly approaching kids are eager to join their friends at summer camp. Governor Abbott is expected to release new guidelines regarding childcare and summer camp requirements as early as Monday May 18.
Amarillo Maverick Boys and Girls Club announced that they will open registration for summer camp beginning May 22. The club which has remained open during the pandemic however the attendance has dropped to less than 60 kids from the near 300 to adhere to state regulations. Amarillo College has suspended its summer Kids College camps and classes including all of the community enrichment programs indefinitely. Amarillo College which is considered essential by the city of Amarillo had remained open much like the Boys and Girls Club with a bare minimum of staff and members.
The Don Harrington Discovery Center summer camps for kids still scheduled as planned beginning June 1 for kids ages three through entering the sixth grade. Registration is still open for these summer activities which take place through July 24. DHDC has a limited number of half day camps and full day camps as well as pre-care and after-care spots available. During the COVID-19 pandemic should any change in scheduled itinerary be altered or canceled refunds will be issued where applicable.
