A baseball team from San Antonio could find their new home in Amarillo.

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox, the AAA affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, is hoping to move to San Antonio pending approval on a new stadium. This relocation would mean that the AA team in San Antonio, the Missions, would be on the lookout for a new town.

Amarillo has shown interest in acquiring the team.

The baseball team currently located in Amarillo, the Thunderheads, is part of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball, which has no affiliation with Major League Baseball. The Missions are a AA Minor League Baseball team.

According to Jerry Hodge, former Amarillo mayor and committee member of Amarillo's Local Government Corporation, Amarillo would be a suitable place for the Missions to relocate since they are part of the Texas League.

Amarillo recently made the decision to build a multi-purpose stadium downtown that would include a baseball field. However, over $10 million worth of changes would need to be made in order to accommodate a AA team.
