A standoff with police lasted about 3 hours yesterday in Amarillo and finally ended with the suspect in handcuffs.  Amarillo Police officers, negotiators and SWAT all worked together to safely arrest the man without injuries to any neighbors or officers.  It started at 3:30pm and ended at 6:27pm.

"On 10-24-13, at about 3:30 PM, investigation led APD officers to the home at 3600 Fleetwood in search of Rene Rivera, HM age 38. He was wanted for aggravated assault and felon in possession of a firearm. These warrants were issued through Castro County and Deaf Smith County, and were linked to an August shooting. He was described as armed and dangerous by authorities familiar with the case. By about 4:40 PM, officers had contacted the man by telephone, and confirmed that he was inside the home. The suspect initially told officers that he would come out, but did not. APD Negotiators joined SWAT and other officers already on the scene. Officers had neighbors on either side of the home leave, and asked that other people living in the area remain inside their homes until the situation was resolved. At 6:27 PM, Rivera agreed to come out. He walked out of the home and was taken into custody. Officers secured a search warrant for the home. That warrant was served after the suspect was taken into custody. Officers remained at the arrest scene for some time to conduct additional investigation. Rivera, who listed an address in Hereford, was booked into the Randall County Jail on the two outstanding felony warrants. No one was injured in the incident."
