It seems to be becoming an epidemic in Amarillo these days. Something I’ve never seen this often in my life until moving here, but I'm talking about vehicles crashing into buildings. It's truly amazing how often it seems to happen here.

Now, it may simply be because we're a smaller city so we hear about literally everything that happens in it, but it seems this has become a major issue these days. Are people falling asleep at the wheel? Not paying attention? I'm not really sure, but it's happened again.

Semi Crashes Into Toot'n Totum

On Monday, a semi rolled right into a storage building at the Toot'n Totum at 5242 River Road just before 6 p.m. Normally, when things like this happen it's later at night, someone had a bit too much to drink, or they weren't paying attention. The timing of this one was interesting, and so were the circumstances.

When crews arrived on scene, they found it was an unoccupied semi that had slammed into the storage building there. I saw a picture of it and I'm not sure if there was initially someone in the cab or not. It would seem like someone forgot to put it in park based on the fact that the building wasn't entirely taken out, but again, no details on that yet.

Crash-A-Rillo

It might be time to start thinking about renaming Amarillo to Crash-A-Rillo if this continues. Several businesses have been taken out by vehicles in the last year or so, and the exit at Paramount and I-40 has caught the brunt of it.

Is Amarillo just set up for these types of accidents to happen, or is it just dumb luck that it continues to happen? If it keeps up, we won't have any more businesses to go to.

What Is A Day Like In Texas Prisons? A View From Both Sides Of The Bars

Have you ever wondered what life inside a Texas prison is really like? I asked friends who are correction officers and folks who have volunteered at jails. I also asked former inmates, and browsed forums and articles with current and former inmates. Put all together, it paints what I hope is a fairly accurate picture of daily prison life in Texas.

Amarillo On 'America's Most Wanted'

I was surprised to find out recently that we also have a bit of a history with the show America's Most Wanted.

Digging through old news articles, I found several separate occasions where Amarillo and America's Most Wanted crossed paths. It makes me wonder if there are some that I've missed.
