How Cassettes Became the New Collectible Craze

Over the last 5-7 years, we've seen a massive resurgence in people wanting to purchase old media. In Amarillo, it's a bit tougher to find that type of stuff. If you're in a big city, there are typically a ton of places that sell it.

When I talk about old media, I'm talking about vinyl, VHS tapes, etc. Vinyl started the resurgence roughly 10 years ago. All of a sudden, you could buy a record player in Target, and they were flying off the shelves.

What's The Latest Craze

It's not that people are getting bored with purchasing vinyl, but it seems to have taken a bit of a backseat to the latest craze. Cassette tapes have become the hot new collectible, and people are furiously seeking them out.

All of a sudden, I wish I had kept all my cassettes. I have one that sits in my office, and it's an original pressing of the Snoop Doggy Dogg "Doggystyle" album. It was a promo copy that was given to me, and it's still sealed, as you can see above.

Where Can You Find Cassettes In Amarillo

Surprisingly, there are several places that still sell cassette tapes. A couple of them are obvious locations, as that's the kind of stuff they deal in. High Fidelity has all sorts of older media and is always one of the best spots in Amarillo.

Other places you can find them would be Bitter Buffalo Records and, apparently, Game Quest, found on 6th St., has a good selection. Another great place to find them would be just about any thrift store in Amarillo. They always seem to have a wide array of CDs and cassettes.
