Every Pair Counts: Amarillo’s Sock Donation Campaign In October
Now that we're into October here in Amarillo, we're starting to think about those cooler weather days and months. We can already start to feel it a bit when we wake up in the morning and those temperatures are sitting in the 50s, but it's only going to get colder.
For most of us, it's easy to make sure we bundle up properly as we get ready to take on the elements outside, even if it's only for a few minutes. What about those, though, who are homeless and have to brave the elements all day and night?

Cold Weather Brings Donation Drives
Around Amarillo, we see several different drives that are designed to bring in warmer clothing for those who can't get their hands on it. From the homeless, to those who may have a roof over their head but can't afford to get those articles of clothing for their kids.
One of those events is happening in the form of a trunk or treat for the fifth year in a row, while others are collecting things such as coats, hats, and gloves.
One Thing Typically Forgotten? Socks
Among all the different events to collect things for those less fortunate, one of the items that tends to be forgotten is socks. The importance of them can't be understated. Heat rises, whether it's in a home or in your body. How many times have you been cold, put some socks on, then within 5-10 minutes you're warmer?
Well, the Amarillo Public Library has decided to participate in an event that is all about socks, and nothing else. SOCKTOBER is a nationwide initiative, and it'll be one of the most important drives of the year.
How & Where Do I Donate
All five of the Amarillo Public Library locations will be collecting socks throughout the month, so it's easy for you to drop some off. Their goal is to collect at least 1,500 pairs of socks that can become part of a care package.
The donations and packages put together will stay right here in Amarillo and help those in our city.
